Punters on Betfair are abandoning the Liberals faster than Paul Martin can abandon any pretensions of having any right to "govern" anything. The Tories, who were 3/1 against when the British betting exchange started taking bets, have shortened to 4/1 on. Meanwhile, in a desperate attempt to prevent his party' complete collapse, Martin made an ad hoc promise in last night's debates. Essentially, he's promising to transfer the legislative powers of what he laughingly calls a "democracy" to our unelected judiciary.

Yes, he really is that stupid!

With the Liberal campaign collapsing on all fronts, increasingly desperate attacks are becoming the norm. Their latest frantic broadside includes labelling a Christian women's organization that happened to give a Conservative MP an audience as "far-right." Is there no depth to which this scum will sink?

There is one poll where the Liberals have seen their numbers go up and up and up. The bad news is that on http://www.betfair.com, that's not where you want the numbers going. When the British betting exchange began taking bets on the election earlier in the campaign, punters gave the Liberals comfortable odds of 1.35 - that's almost 3/1 favourites. Now, the odds on the Liberals are above 2.0 (i.e. the punters feel their chances of winning are worse than 50-50 or "even") while it's the Tories who are favoured with odds of 1.76 - about a 4/3 favourite.

Of course, it's all fun and games on Betfair since n0body would actually bet on the outcome an election. Having said that, it seems that when election day nears the punters on Betfair usually get it spot on.

Fiddling with the numbers

With the Liberal poll numbers plummeting, it seems Paul Martin and Ralph Goodale decided to try and make up a few numbers of their own. Maybe they did read the Conservative platform and maybe they calculated their $50 billion plus deficit forecast by some rational means, but we shall never know for sure because they're keeping the details of their "calculations" to themselves.

Alberta - Strong and Free

This blog is mostly going to be about Alberta, and over the coming months and years I intend to demonstate just why Alberta is the best place in the world to live. I will also rant about all the things that piss Albertans off.

Although this blog may occassionally sympathise with the grievances of the growing number of Albertans that call themselves "separatists," this blog will not promote the secession of Alberta from Canada. Most of us are still proud to call ourselves Canadians, despte the fact that if it were not for those leeches in Ottawa sucking an eleven-digit figure from our wallets each year, the average Albertan income would be higher than that of every soveriegn nation on the planet.

Then again, trust me, it's much more rewarding to live here instead of Luxembourg.
